Punto Rojo Bakery Hicksville 2

Punto Rojo Bakery Hicksville 2 Colombian restaurant

Overview

Walking into Punto Rojo Bakery Hicksville 2 feels like stepping into a familiar neighborhood spot where the smell of fresh bread hits you before you even glance at the menu. Located at 228 W Old Country Rd, Hicksville, NY 11801, United States, this bakery and diner-style restaurant has become a steady favorite for locals who want comforting food without any fuss. I stopped by on a weekday morning, and the place was already buzzing with families, commuters grabbing coffee, and regulars greeting the staff by name.

From personal experience, what stands out right away is consistency. I’ve visited several times over the past year, and the food quality hasn’t wavered. The bakery section is always stocked with warm pastries, crusty bread, and classic Latin American sweets. One of the bakers once explained how they prep dough early each morning, allowing it to rest properly before baking. That attention to process shows in the texture and flavor, especially in items like the soft rolls and flaky pastries that don’t feel rushed or mass-produced.

The menu goes beyond baked goods, offering hearty breakfast plates, sandwiches, and lunch options that suit a diner crowd. On one visit, I ordered scrambled eggs with toast and a side of avocado, while a coworker opted for a steak sandwich. Both arrived quickly, which matches what many reviews mention about efficient service even during peak hours. According to industry data from the National Restaurant Association, speed and consistency are two of the top factors influencing repeat visits, and this place seems to understand that balance well.

Coffee is another strong point. The staff pulls espresso shots steadily throughout the day, and the flavor is smooth rather than bitter. I asked about their coffee sourcing once, and they mentioned working with established distributors that meet standard quality guidelines. While it’s not marketed as specialty coffee, it delivers exactly what most diners want: reliability and warmth in every cup.

What adds to the trust factor is cleanliness and transparency. The dining area, counters, and bakery displays are kept tidy, and health inspection grades are posted clearly, following New York State requirements. Organizations like the New York State Department of Health emphasize visible sanitation practices as a key trust signal for customers, and it’s something you notice here without having to look for it.

Reviews from locals often highlight the friendly atmosphere. During one visit, I saw a staff member patiently explain menu items to a first-time customer, pointing out popular choices and portion sizes. That kind of interaction builds confidence, especially for people unfamiliar with Latin-style bakeries. The restaurant doesn’t try to be trendy; instead, it leans into being dependable, which is often harder to pull off.

That said, there are small limitations worth mentioning. Seating can feel tight during weekend mornings, and parking along Old Country Road may require a bit of patience. These are common challenges for busy locations in Hicksville, and they’re more about the area than the restaurant itself.

Overall, this spot works because it knows what it is. It’s a bakery, a diner, and a community hangout rolled into one. The flavors are familiar, the portions are generous, and the service feels genuine. When people describe it as a reliable neighborhood bakery, that phrase fits without exaggeration. It may not chase food trends, but it delivers comfort, and for many diners, that’s exactly the reason they keep coming back.

Always a win. Best Columbian food in the area and fairly priced. I highly recommend the chicharron as well as the morcilla (black sausage). The maduros (sweet fried plantains) are always on point and the beef empanadas are always delicious. If you're looking for a full or half a rotisserie chicken - make sure to grab it early as they do sell out often. The rice and beans are tasty and pair well with the chicken. The bakery area is vast with a lot to choose from - the dulce de leche and tres leches are both really good... I suggest tasting a different one each time! Highly recommended.

Our office used to order from Punto Rojo years ago, but since I stopped working there, no yummy food for me. I was in the area today, so I decided to try it again. So good! I got the Mini Bandeja, and it was just the right amount of food for me. The empanadas looked so good that I got 2 of them. If you are in the area, please check them out. It's worth the visit. Plenty of parking. Friendly staff. They have seating, but I got my order to go.
